When the Best Western Hotel Sommerau was established in 1969, the original aim was to account for the city of Chur's lack of a motel. Instead, the hotel has by now achieved three stars status, and only its exceptionally good accessibility remains as a reminder of the intended destiny: Situated just off the highway, with a hundred free parking spaces in front, and the city centre reached within minutes by car or bus, the hotel is especially popular with business travellers.
While it has its own miniature golf course for the younger and older guests, there are nine real-sized greens within a radius of merely 90minutes driving. Chur Hotel Sommerau and its 75 rooms were renovated and modernised in 2005 and welcome their guests with all amenities. Breakfast is included, and the Restaurant Sommerau offers Swiss specialities and Mediterranean classics, with its occasional Sunday brunches being locally so renowned that prior reservations are by now a necessity.
Chur Hotel Best Western Sommerau close to central train station
Guests will find a hotel-own bowling alley and playground, bar and dancing. And then of course the Hotel Sommerau is sitting right on the doorstep of Chur, Switzerland's oldest city, featuring one of the most romantic and picturesque old towns of Europe. Especially its markets on Saturday mornings are worth a visit. Or join one of the guided city walks to have the many hidden treasures of the city pointed out to you. Chur lies at the foot of mount Brombüesch, which provides it not only with clear spring water “on tap“, but also with an all-year sports area around the corner. From Best Western Hotel Sommerau it is merely 2km to Chur central station, from where there's a top speed connection to Zurich airport. The real pilgrimage for train enthusiasts in Chur, however, is the so called Albula track, connecting it to St. Moritz and Tirano.
