The Hotel Bären in Bern - How A Best Western Hotel Turned Into A Siestahotel!
Right next to its big brother, the Hotel Bristol in Bern, we find the Best Western Hotel Bären as well. The five-storied building has a clearer and more modern façade. Its entrance, however, is topped off with a huge golden bear - a namegiving mascot referring to the bear-pit close by.
Like its four-star neighbour, the Hotel Bären offers the comfort and services one may expect: Complimentary breakfast, newspaper, and bikes; steam room, solarium, and a concierge; shoe shine- and laundry services, paid parking, banquet and meeting facilities - these are some of the amenities available there.
But one fact distinguishes it from other hotels of its kind: After the outstanding success of the “sleeping boat“ MS Swiss Corona, stationed in Basel in 2004, a remarkable pilot project was launched. Four so-called “Siestahotels“ within Switzerland temporarily offered free naps to non-resident guests - provided they had taken their Lunches there!
Best Western Hotel Bären Bern made the treat permanent in 2006 - and extended it from the 57 comfortably equipped rooms to its interior yard. Between 12:00 and 15:00 hours each day, one can take power-naps under the sky. So covered safely with the warmest linen, and surrounded by refreshing air, energies needed can be re-gained.
And whether you are a sportive person, a cultural fan or an hasardeur - the tourist attractions of Bern are diverse: swimming, golfing and ice-skating rinks; museums, botanical gardens and art galleries; a casino, a shopping centre, night clubs and bars - much can be done, seen and visited there.
