Location: Zurich has approx. 367,000 inhabitants and is the largest town of Switzerland. This business centre is located where the Limmat flows out of the Lake Zurich. In ancient times, the silk industry was world-famous. The reformation started in 1519 in Zurich under the direction of Zwingli.
Tourism: Zurich's sights are usually grouped around the old part of town. There is the Town Hall built in Renaissance style, guild houses, the Fraumünster church with windows of Marc Chagall. At the St. Peter's church you can find the largest clock face of Europe. From the Central Place you can get to the Poly Terrace by the “Polybahn“. From there you will have a wonderful view to the whole of Zurich. You should also visit the observatory of Semper. Furthermore, there is the internationally known Opera House, a playhouse, some theatres and concert halls.
Food and drink: When thinking of Zurich you will involuntarily think of hashed veal served together with mushrooms and fried potato cake (Rösti). We recommend to try local and regional dishes - from “Schupfnudeln“, beef with green vegetables and a parfait with different ingredients - everything is tasty.
You will probably know the well-known Bircher muesli which was developed by the doctor Maximilian Oskar Bircher around 1900 already.
If you want to experience something special, you should try the „Crazy Cow“ in the city centre. Another famous restaurant in Kloten is the „Alpenrockhouse“.
Football: The stadium where three matches of the Championship 2008 will be held is the Stadium Letzigrund. The Hardturm was planned as a venue for the Championship, but the building operations have been stopped by civic action. The number of spectator seats is 31,000.
