Austria European Football Championship 2008 

Location: Innsbruck is the capital of the state Tyrol and is located where the Sill flows into the Inn. With its approx. 120,000 inhabitants Innsbruck belongs to the largest Austrian towns. Northwards, Innsbruck is framed by the Karwendelgebirge, southwards by part of the Alps, the Patscherkofel.

 

Tourism: Innsbruck with its numerous sights is a Tyrolean magnet. The most important sights are: The Hofburg built in 1754 - nowadays partly a museum. The Golden Dachl - an alcove balcony with approx. 2,600 gold-plated copper shingles. The bell museum at the bell foundry Grassmayer. The Hofkirche, with the grave of Maximilian, built in the middle of the 16th century, a grave monument with larger-than-life bronze figures. During a walk through the old town of Innsbruck you will be impressed by the historical buildings such as the Town Hall or the St. Jakob cathedral.

 

Food and drink: Apart from the famous Tyrolean Bacon there are numerous tasty dumpling meals. A further specialty is the “Tiroler Gröstl“, fried in the pan, consisting of meat, potatoes and onions.

 

Sports: Innsbruck has a ski jump as well. Annual guests on the Bergiselschanze are the organizers of the Four Hills Tournament with the best ski jumpers of the world.

 

Football: During the European Football Championship 2008 Innsbruck belongs to the four venues of Austria. In the Tivoli-Stadium, where the FC Wacker Tirol helds his home matches, the number of seats will be substantially increased just for the Championship 2008. All of the approx. 30,000 seats are roofed.

How to get there: If you want to visit Innsbruck, you can go by car, by train or by plane. If going by car take the Inntal autobahn A12 or the Brenner autobahn A13 and in the direction Seefeld, Mittenwald via the B177. West of Innsbruck, there is an international airport.
