Location: With 186,000 inhabitants Geneva is the second-largest town of Switzerland. The capital of the canton Geneva with the same name can be found to the southwest of the French-speaking Switzerland at the outlet of the Rhone from the Lake Geneva. Both the UNO and the International Red Cross have their headquarters in Geneva.
Tourism: In this elegant and rather cool town you will probably not feel as comfortable as in other Swiss towns. Where the Rhone flows into the Lake of Geneva you can find a fountain (Jet d´Eau) which is the famous landmark. You shouId visit the St. Peter Cathedral of the 13th century and the Town Hall of the 15th century. The Palace of the United Nations - Palais de Nations - is important as well. The fountain in the lake and the parks on the shores of the lake are charming. A further highlight is the Park de la Grange, a rose garden with may rose types laid out in 1946 on terraces, with natural stone stairs and basins. In the old part of the town there are attractive art galleries, antique shops, museums and a lot of fountains.
Food and drink: Geneva is an international town and therefore offers numerous good restaurants for gourmets. Geneva specialities such as Longeole (Geneva sausage specialty) or Fricassée (a pork ragout à la Geneva) should be absolutely tried. You can buy sweet specialities in the Chocolaterie du Rhone.
Football: In the Stade de Geneve, the venue of the European Championship 2008, three grouping matches in group A are held. The stadium was built in 2003 and has 30,000 seats. The stadium has a shopping centre with underground car park, a hotel and a congress and cultural centre.

How to get there: The international town Geneva is easily to reach via autobahn, but the train connections are recommendable as well. The international airport which can be reached by public transport can be found in the part of town Coitrin which is just 5 kilometres away. The public local traffic is handled by buses and trams and a subway.
